How long have you been in business?

We have over three decades of combined experience in the allergen-free food sector. Since 1992, Allergy Grocer and Miss Roben’s have been trusted names in this industry.  We are family owned and operated and we treat our customers with the same care and attention that we treat members of our own family. Since we are a part of the food allergy community, we can better understand your concerns.

How can you be sure that the products remain allergen free?

In order to be sure that none of our Miss Roben’s products have any cross-contamination issues, and to increase food safety, we have our own dedicated allergen-free warehouse and production plant. In addition, we conduct our own in-house allergen testing to ensure product safety. Finally, we hand pack each and every order, ensuring increased safety from start to finish.

How do I find the specific allergen-free products that I need?

Our website allows you to search by allergy. Simply click on the “Shop by Allergen” tab and then check off the boxes which apply to you. Each result that you get will be safe for you to consume. Many people who suffer from a food allergy suffer from more than one, or have family members which suffer from different allergies, our search method is intended to making shopping safer and easier for the whole family.

What is Miss Roben’s?

Miss Roben’s is our own brand of allergen free baking mixes, flours, and ingredients. The company began in 1992 and we now produce over 65 products on a dedicated allergen-free production line.  All of our products are free from Wheat, Gluten, Barley, Oats, Rye, Dairy, Casein, Lactose, Whey, Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Soy Protein, Soy Oil, Fish, Shellfish, Sesame, Onion, and Latex.  We only utilized prepackaged yeast, which is an optional ingredient used at your discretion. The soy lecithin, an ingredient in chocolate chips used in Miss Roben’s chocolate chip cookie mix, are packaged in a separate room.

Ingredients are carefully sourced to provide the same allergen-free status as our production plant and we treat all ingredients as if they are allergens—our equipment and room are cleaned after every change in ingredients and produced at a separate time.

I notice that you carry only certain products of some brands. Why?

We hand select each and every one of our products. Our distributors carry many, many products. However, we only want to offer the very best. Our selection process includes taste, texture, safety and price. We are not looking to be a clearinghouse for any product which carries the allergy free label; instead, we want to be the best. One way we do this is by only offering the safest and tastiest products available. However, we do carry a broad product selection, and offer the best choices across many different food categories. Finally, we pride ourselves in offering unique and hard-to-find items, such as Corn-Free Confectioner’s Sugar and Allergen-Free Powered Vanilla.

I live near Columbia, MD. Do you have a store where I can purchase items?

Our production facility and warehouse is located in Hagerstown, Maryland. You are welcome to pick up products directly from the factory but will need to call ahead to make sure your order is processed for pick up.

Can anyone receive volume-based discounts?

Currently these are only for re-sellers. However, our prices are always low. In fact, we consistently beat the prices of most of our competitors.

What if I want to re-sell your products?

Allergy Grocer is happy to offer volume-based discounts for anyone with wholesale account status. Please contact our corporate office and speak with Director of Operations Seth Molin. He will be happy to help you.

How can I take advantage of the free shipping?

Any orders totaling $100 or more automatically qualify for free shipping within the continental United States.  We strive to limit shipping charges, but Hawaii, Alaska and international orders currently incur additional charges.

What if I have a question?

We pride ourselves on our unbeatable customer service and knowledgeable staff. In fact, you may have noticed the “Live Chat” buttons on the bottom of each page. Simply click on this and start typing! Monday – Friday, 9:00 – 5:00 est. someone is available to answer your questions.

How do you ship your products?

We typically ship our products UPS ground, although for an additional fee, next day and overnight shipping options are available. In an effort to ensure that our shipping costs are the same or lower than our competitors, we pass our volume discounts on to our customers. We understand that living allergy free can be expensive, and we do everything we can to pass on savings.

It’s not enough that our products are safe here with us. We want them to stay safe all the way to your door. This is why we double check products against stated free-from claims, use Earth friendly sustainable packing products, and securely pack each item.

What if I need to return something?

We understand that sometimes you might need to return a product. We do offer a product guarantee. If you do have to return something, please contact customer service at customerservice@allergygrocer.com. Please be sure to include your preferred e-mail, order date, order number found on the packing slip, and reason for your return. We will contact you with instructions on how to return your item.

How secure is your ordering system?

We process through authorize.net and secure the site with GeoTrust.  Further, we chose not to store any credit card information or passwords on our site making it virtually impossible for sensitive material to fall into the wrong hands.

If I sign up for your newsletter will you share my information?

Privacy is important to us; therefore, we will not sell, rent, or give your name or address to anyone.  At any point, you can select the link at the bottom of every email to unsubscribe.

Substitution Ingredients

When substitutions become necessary, most work well with Miss Roben’s mixes, (with exception to Chewy Brownie Mix , White Cake Mix and Angelfood Cake Mix).

EGG SUBSTITUTES:

For recipes that require 1 egg use any of the following:

  • 1/4 cup soft tofu
  • 1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin plus 3 tablespoons warm water
  • 1 tablespoon flax meal plus 3 tablespoons warm water (mix and let  stand 5 minutes to become gelatinized)
  • 1  Tbsp water plus  1 Tbsp oil plus 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder plus 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar plus 1 Tbsp water

If a recipe calls for 2-3 eggs, the following substitutes may be used per egg:

  • Ener-G Egg Replacer ( according to directions)
  • 1 Tbsp water plus 1 Tbsp oil plus 1 Tbsp  baking powder
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder plus 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar plus 1 Tbsp water
  • 2 tsp guar gum plus  1 Tbsp Arrowroot Powder or Tapioca Starch plus 1/3 cup water
  • 1/4 cup banana or pureed fruit
  • 1/4  teaspoon agar powder plus 1/4 cup water plus 1  teaspoon baking powder

MILK SUBSTITUTES

Replace liquids that are appropriate for the recipe, as the final taste may be affected. Rice milk and fruit  juices tend to be sweeter.  When using milk substitutes with Miss  Roben’s  mixes, the directions state to use 1/4 cup less and then add more as needed until the correct consistency is achieved. This is because substitutes differ in water and fat content as compared to cow’s milk.

Choice substitutions include:

Soy milkRice milk, Coconut milk, Almond milk or other nut milk,    Fruit Juices, Vance’s Dairy Free Alternative ( potato based )

Replace 1 cup Buttermilk with any of the following:

  • 1 cup Vance’s Dairy Free Alternative plus 1 tablespoon lemon juice or  vinegar
  • 1 cup Coconut milk
  • 1 cup soy milk plus 1 Tbsp lemon juice or white vinegar
  • 7/8 cup water, fruit juice or rice milk
